senseless death

I never met this boy but wanted to memoralize in some way his passing....my vet called yesterday. A family had brought in their two year old german shepherd to be euthanized. They had been doing work on their home and no longer allowed the dog in the house. He went from being a part of their family to being limited to the yard and garage. In their words he became "too needy" and had started pottying in the garage. The husband had agreed to let the vet place the dog so I was called since I foster for a gsd rescue. The vet kept emphasizing how gorgeous he was, that he was VERY friendly, had obedience training, raised with kids and two ankle biters, was neutered and up-to-date on shots and probably had a "mild" case of separation anxitey.
Fifteen minutes later she called me back...the wife was "put out" that they had attempted to override what SHE had decided and told them she wanted her dog euthanized. When I got called back, this boy was already dead. I cannot even begin to understand why anyone, when given a good option for a dog they no longer want, decides to kill their dog instead.
