Usually the judge (depending on how many dogs are in the class) will bring all the dogs and and handlers in the ring...usually in catalog order...and space them out around the ring. Then the judge will individually critique each dog out loud...teeth must be shown (front,sides, and back), and males are checked for 2 testicles. This is when someone outside the ring can also help bait the dog to help keep it focused and attentive and standing properly. After the critique, the judge will then have that dog and handler do a single (usually) run around the ring so the judge can check movement. After ALL dogs are critiqued (and do their individual runs), then the judge will have ALL the dogs and handlers run around the ring together. Once in awhile the judge will change it to a walk, but most of the time it is a run..(actually a trot). The judge is looking to tire the dogs out a bit, so that strengths and weaknesses in overall physical structure come to the surface. Then the judge will start pulling the dogs out and making his general placements. When the judge has positioned all the dogs to the center of the ring, now he starts looking over the dogs individually and as a group to determine final placings. A lot more baiting is done outside the ring at this point again.
