As with any other training device, one must be taught proper and humane use of the tool.

Research trainers carefully, and make sure that the dog is taught how to "control" the device.

To be fair to the dog, an adequate obedience foundation should be the first step. So... if you're having trouble with your dog walking on leash politely, I would recommend that you work on teaching your dog in a less distracted environment, and take things a little slower.

I would recommend finding a trainer that can help you get your dog under better control first, and then move to the ecollar for off lead control.
