She takes to the crate and goes to sleep but nighttime seems to fall and she is in and out.

HI, I'm new to the forum and have stolen time from supervising Zoe B to read all the posts on sleep deprivation and nipping. Makes me feel better somehow. <G> Zoe is 9 weeks old as of last Sunday and has been with us a week. I can barely remember a full nights sleep. I keep telling myself that a couple more weeks and sleep will be a possibility again. Zoe hooted so loudly the first night that my 4 year old Dober Girl chimed in. :-) Nothing like a dog howling from each side of the bed! <G> I am going to try the later feeding idea, as I feed the girls at 5 as well. There is a medium sized wire crate in the kitchen and a somewhat smaller Vari Kennel by the bed. Seems that she is just fine in the kitchen kennel, but when bedtime rolls around, she has to complain about the accomodations. Could it be that she just plain prefers the openess of the wire crate? She pees, or at least squats two or three times in the space of a couple of minutes in the yard, so I'm waiting for results from a urinalysis to see if she has a bladder infection. On the plus side, she has kept her kennel clean and dry. Is it comparing apples to oranges to expect about the same timetable for things like nipping and housetraining as I experienced with my Dobe? Those are the only two things I am having problems with at this point. Zoe starts Puppy Kindergarten next Monday.
