Yep, my dogs are Nottweilers, but even so, I think the crate should be close enough to the bed for the owner to touch the dog (and I would probably even raise a Rottie pup in bed for the first few weeks while gradually transitioning to the crate, I don't agree with just shoving a pup into a crate the first night, but that's me  )
