Excellent post Mick. Definitely worth printing out and giving to all prospective dog owners - whether first-time, puppy, adult, rescue, and regardless of breed. Although it is much more serious when you're facing problems with a large working breed, you'd be surprised how many people I see on the Basset lists I'm on that have problems with a dominant Basset! This is why I said, regardless of breed. In most cases, instead of actual physical harm (like with Rottweilers and other working breeds), you end up with a dog at the shelter or rescue because it's not a good *pet* - because of the owner/s mistakes in letting the dog walk all over them, literally and figuratively.
