Enzo has conquered this life

Enzo, the 9 year old rescued rottie went to the bridge this weekend. Evelyn called me Saturday from the vet saying Enzo wasn't doing well. He was having trouble breathing and couldn't walk hardly at all. They performed many tests and then wanted to keep him overnight and do more tests, Evelyn discussed this with me and we both came to the conclusion that taking him home was the best idea for Enzo. Enzo died at 3pm sunday, surrounded with love. Evelyn sat in the floor with his big head in her lap and I sat by him. We both hugged him and kissed him over and over. I told him how loved he was, not only did we love him but there were people across the world who had come to know him through my posts and loved him also. His eyes remained on Evelyn for the most part and she was so strong for him. She told him he could leave, that she would be fine, and that she knew he loved her and that she loved him too. she told him she would never forget him and that he would always be with her on every road life takes her on. She told him to go home to be with his first mama. Then she told him what a good boy he was and how blessed she was to have him in her life. With one tiny wag of his stub, he left. Evelyn enveloped him in a big hug and then finally began sobbing. Enzo may have had 6 years of misery living tied in a backyard with no companionship but I am sure the last few months of his life made up for it. Evelyn gave this boy everything possible and more. She put her heart and soul into him and he into her. Enzo died happy of that I am sure. I give Evelyn all the credit in the world for opening up her heart and home to such a sweet special dog, knowing that full well it would come to this in such a short time. In these last few months Enzo knew nothing of a chain or hunger. In these last few months Enzo knew real love. He knew the joy of having his belly scritched and his ears stroked. He knew true happiness and joy and learned how to be a dog again. I am very proud to have known Enzo but even prouder to know Evelyn whom is an angel without wings. But I'm sure one day that will change. Goodbye Enzo....... We will miss you.
