For 1 and a half and he's laid back!! Personally, I think that is awesome and for a rescue, even better!! It sounds like you didn't have to do a "boot camp" for him. I would think you would want a Mr. Cool, Calm and Collected dog!! When you ask about aloof, do you want him to be more indifferent towards strangers or is the underlining question, Will he protect me as a Mr. Laidback rottie? If he's laid back now(a still maturing rottie), I'm inclined to think that it is his personality and that he will stay that way...
