When our 10 year old girl died during surgery, I was such a mess there was no consoling me. I was non stop crying. She died in November but even so, I decided to take a walk on the beach where we walked together from the time she was a pup. Sheena had a rottie trot but always dragged one nail along the ground. We always knew when she needed her nails trimmed because we could hear her padding along the floor.
When I got down to the water's edge, I saw a full set of dog prints leading into the water. Every few steps, there was a nail dragging print in the sand. There was no one around and especially no other dogs. I stood there watching as the ocean erased the prints. I never saw them again and am convinced they were hers, saying goodbye.
