Re: How do you keep your Rottie cool for summer

If we are going to be outside in direct sun for any length of time during the summer, I bring frozen or refrigerated towels. I wet down a bunch of white shop towels (you can get them pretty cheap in a lot of places), roll them up and stick 'em in the freezer or refrigerator so they are ready when I need them. When I am heading out, I just grab a few and throw them in a small cooler in the truck. I also bring along a jug or two of cold water.

If the dogs appear to get overly warm, I take a towel or two out of the cooler and drape them over the dog's shoulders and back. Keeps the sun off them and cools at the same time. I rewet the towels from the cold water in the cooler to use again or to cool off their heads and faces.
