From personal experience, I won't go into, your very first step, (once you are sure you have the time, and money to invest in a dog)

is to make sure you buy from a reputable breeder. Not some dog out of the newspaper, not a buddy who breeds (or thinks he can breed) and not some pet store/shop.

GENETICS IS EVERYTHING. Take your time and find a breeder that is in it for the love of the breed, not the money. You must start out with a genetically sound puppy (temperament, mother and father even farther down the line)
