I would also think being around an older dog that is the opposite of shy could teach the pup that there's nothing to be scared about.

I've got a shy pup right now. Shy, well I'd call it cautious rather than shy. She is cautious of new things, new people, new places. Once she is confortable, and has gained some confidence in the situation she's great. I think that can create a smart dog, depending how the pup is raised.

Thanks for the tips, definately things for me to double check that I am doing (and not doing).
