| My buddy is gone. This is my first post. Sorry it is a sad one, but I feel I needed to post it.
On January 11, 2006 I had to put my buddy down. He was older and had lost control of his body. With the Vets recommendation I put him down.
Odin came to my home one day abandoned and skinny. We went door to door and put him in the paper under the found section, but nobody came to collect him. We ended up keeping him and named him Odin. He was a beautiful young Rottie. We had to have his entropion corrected and worked on his fear of quick movements. I assume he was mistreated by the way he acted. He would even growl at us if we hugged him, but we worked with him and got thru it. He wasn't a bad dog, just came from a bad home. After awhile you wouldn't have thought he would have ever acted that way, he was great.
He made the local paper one day when our house caught fire and the Fire Dept. had to save him. This is one reason I don't like my dogs left indoors alone anymore.
He once got very, very sick and the Vet didn't think he would make it. I gave him his antibiotics and force fed him a blend of rice and hamburger meat until he began to eat on his own.
The day that he had to be put down was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. Odin was my friend and part of the family. He would just put his head on my lap and loved me to pet him while I was watching football or anything else. Although at first he was very mistrusting of people, after awhile he loved everyone, even strangers. He was just a great big teddy bear.
Once my wife took him for a walk and a Pit Bull came running out towards them. Odin moved and stood in between the Pit and my wife until the owner came and got him. He loved his family as we loved him.
He had some hard times in the begining, but he got thru them. He was my buddy to the end and my eyes are tearing up just writing this. I miss him dearly. Rest in peace buddy. We love you. |
