My new rescue, Skye, is proving very difficult to train. She's been in basic OB for six weeks now and I worked with her some before starting classes. Her stay work is great but anything requiring pulling on a leash for direction (turns on healing/figure 8, finishes, recalls - she crouches down like you're going to beat her or something. Believe me, I'm using my best 'happy voice' the whole time. It's extremely frustrating and I don't know how to deal with it. She does a beautiful recall with a front sit with treats (no leash). I tried that for the 'finish' but as I lead her behind me with a treat she crouches down again and won't move.
I can understand if OB isn't her thing and I'd like to try agility when classes start in the spring - but if I can't train this, how am I going to train for agility?? She loves to run and fetch balls but using that as a training aide doesn't work either - I've tried.
