Ct. Tom -

My male dog, Denali, had arthroscopy surgery on Thursday on both elbows. I noticed that we was limping on his left front - sometimes really bad, sometimes hardly noticeable. I took him to Colorado State University and they took x-rays. The diagnosis was elbow dysplasia. The left already had very noticeable arthritis, the right not so bad. They also thought he might have Fragmented Coronoid Process (FCP), but that this is hard to diagnose by x-ray. I found a surgeon closer to where I live, and he did arthroscopy to clean out the elbow joints. He prefers arthroscopy because it is less invasive on the joints. On Thursday, he confirmed that both elbows had FCP. The right elbow should heal great. The left, on the other hand, was said to be the worse he has seen (seems to be the case with Denali and all his other problems!). Anyways, he cleaned it the best he could, but that the arthritis is already pretty bad. We will be starting Adequan shots next week, he is on Rimadyl, for now, and low exercise. Now if I could only get him to stop licking his 4 stiches on each elbow!!

This is probably more information than you needed! Sorry.
