Rottweiler wins AKC ACE Award The AKC announced its Awards for Canine Excellence (ACE) winners, and this extraordinary Rottweiler was a winner. I am astounded by this dog! Quote:
*Service Dog: "Faith" from Richland, Wash.
Faith is a 4- year-old Rottweiler trained in seizure
alert and response, respiratory/cardiac alert and
response, mobility, emergency water rescue and cart
pulling. On September 7, 2004 Faith saved her owner's life by
performing a remarkable series of tasks all on her
own. Faith sensed something was wrong with owner Leana
Beasley and began jumping on the bed, refusing to let
her fall asleep. Without warning, Beasley fell
unconscious to the floor, and began having grand mal seizures.
Faith sprang into action, relying on the extensive
training she received from the Assistance Dog Club of
Puget Sound. She took the phone off the base, pushed the
special 9-1-1 speed-dial button and barked into the
phone. Returning to her owner, Faith rolled her into a
recovery position. When the police arrived, Faith
recognized the police uniforms and unlocked the door,
leading them to the bedroom. In October 2004, the Benton
County Emergency Services honored Faith with a
Certificate of Recognition for her life-saving actions. In
March 2005, the local chapter of the American Red Cross
honored Faith with a Real Hero Award in the "911 Rescue"
category. This was the first time the award had been
presented to a non-human.
