| I think it depends more on general condition, growth rate, and appetite - if your pup's growing slowly and doesn't have a big appetite there's no reason yet to switch foods. If he's growing fast and is big boned and has a big appetite you'd probably want to switch him over slowly to adult food. This is a generalization but maybe will give you some idea of when/why to switch.
