I would say if you cannot correct, then don't give the command.

I don't appreciate a dog that barges out of the crate when I open the door...but Julius has always waited until I opened the crate door to come out. No barging. So I've never felt that a command is needed.

Now, when we are at an agility trial, I will give him a "wait" if I'm getting him out of his crate in a busy area. This is to give me time to get his leash on & all that other good stuff. But other than that, I don't give a command.
