my maxine did not do well with flax oil, it made her even more flakey. since then i have read that many dogs do not tolerate it well. i have also read that it can be harmful to give a dog avocado... but this does not include avocado oil. (try a google on dogs+avocado and you can read all about it) i would advise against feeding bacon grease; cooked animal fat is bad for dogs. raw egg is controversial as well, raw egg whites deplete the body of biotin... but the yolks contain a high amount of biotin that should make up for what the white "takes away". still, some sources will tell you never to feed raw egg because of this. when i was feeding commercial dogfood i substituted one meal per week with a can of jack mackerel or sardines or canned salmon and this kept my dogs coat healthy.
and in addition to all of that, i think brunie's mom is on to something.... are you feeding your dog a good quality kibble? i would switch to a high quality kibble before trying any additional foods or suppliments.  |
