| Pits are wonderful dogs when given the time, the love, and affection they need to become part of their community. My Spudz was one of the best dogs I've ever seen and his father-well words just couldn't describe that dog! I think adopting a Pit and giving it a second chance at life is just wonderful! They do have a strong prey drive but tend to be one of the most obedient dogs I've ever seen so it's usually not hard to control as long as you have control over the dog. We used to put Spudz on down stays and forget about him and an hour or so later we'd remember and he'd be in the same place as we placed him at the stay. Very obedient dog. shepherds tend to be a little more independent that that from what I've noticed and heard. They will stay but come looking for you if you're gone too long... Just be careful because some dogs are bred for the pit fighting in their lines, not to say that these dogs can't be good dogs but probaly a little more dog than most people are ready to handle.
