I thought the same thing...and my dog was euthanized 2 days after a needle biopsy confirmed the osteosarcoma. My sweet Luna smiled through her pain and I thought I waited a day too long, even though I already "knew" and had the appointment set before her biopsy results even came back. It's frightening how fast this cancer moves once it gets hold of our dogs, and we do the best we can to know when the balance between the love for life and the need to die begins to falter. Your boy went with his dignity because of the compassion and respect you had for him and, if you could ask him, I'm sure he'd say he would not have denied you a single one of those happy smiles. You did the right thing when he told you it was time...and that was the right moment to do it in.
Godspeed Harley, fly with the Angels.....I know my girl was there to welcome you.
