I had a very very tough and wonderful bitch that when tiny would give me hard eye contact and tell me she would die before submitting. Unless I was going to do her an injury or kill her dead, I had to invent some clever ways of working with her. I invented the spit thing (didn't bother putting it on my finger, just gave her a big old very spitt filled lick on her nose.). She thought that was an absolute hoot and that is how I taught her the out. She lived to be over 13 and all her life, every once in a while just for fun we'd do it. Tickled her no end.
