| I got my 15month old female rotty (Roxanne) from a friend. He owned both the mother and the father. The mother was a Kimbertal Rotty and let me tell you, I got what was considered a small pup at the time. As she has grown, she has surpassed her siblings by far in health. I am planning on showing her for the first time this spring while 2 of her siblings have hip dislpasia (sp), another has huge buck teeth, and a couple have horrible temperments.
I am not saying that this is a result of the mother being a Kimbertal pup, but a lot of times you can't tell until they are 6 or 8 months old. I picked Roxanne at 3 weeks old based on her temperment and personality. She isn't the largest (98 lbs at 15 months) but she is protective of me and my wife, extremely gentle around children and my ferretts, and always loving.
But I have to say, the first time I took her to the vet, he asked about the parents and when I told him that the mother came from Kimbertal, he said "well you got lucky".
Moral of the story, it is tough sometimes getting a pure bread puppy because you never know what is going to happen. I myself love my Roxxy, and cherish the day I got her. |
