You have been given some good advice.
Try feeding him all of his meals in the crate....they associate good things with the crate if every meal time happens there.
Honestly...things will get better.
Also make sure the little guy is getting enough exercise before going into the crate for the day or the night. Is it possible to get someone to let him out during the day and feed and play with him? Seems like this pup is spending an awful lot of hours crated.
