| Re: Horrible gas for several days Before the rice, you should probably fast them completely (water only) for a day to let things settle down. And when feeding a bland diet you should use white rice. This isn't going to be an ongoing diet, it's temporary, so no need to worry about ongoing nutrition (brown may be better, but it does not count as bland).
As a general rule, whenever you're dealing with an upset digestive system, you should always fast for 12-24 hours, then small, frequent meals of a bland diet (unseasoned, cooked rice & cooked hamburger or cooked ground chicken/turkey) until stools return to normal, then gradually phase back in the regular food. Switching straight from regular food to bland diet without a fast period to rest the gut is unlikely to be as successful.
