I was lucky with Rocco on using that method to train him to walk nice but I never needed to go to the point of having him sit at my side or return to me after we stopped, so I can't help you there. He got the message with just stopping. As far as a prong goes, I do use one with Rocco although it's more just a reminder that I'm in control because he can pull as hard as he wants on it and it doesn't seem to phase him at all. I'm not sure whether he has a thick neck or a thick head!
