We have a couple of cats, and surprisingly the one cat "Black Cat" can stand his ground and make the dogs back off. Medusa my pit loves to lick the cats, sort of gives them a saliva bath.
Dogs are unpredictable when it comes to cats, I've seen dogs growl and bark and run after cats and once they caught up to them they play with them or lay down near them. But don't always think they will do that, close supervision is a must especially with big dogs.
