My mother in laws dogs were both deaf from birth, and fully trained with hand signals. They knew every trick by hand signals, and the dogs are constantly checking in with her, in case she is trying to get their attention.
They were little ????zu's or apso's....but to train them, she'd use the hand signal, then gently put them in the position that she wanted, and repeat til the dog 'got it'.
Dunno if there is an easier way, but my MIL has a LOT of patience.
