Getting a dog fixed can be one of the least expensive things you will need to do to properly care for and raise a dog. |
I am very fortunate to be working at all. I am also very fortunate that what hours I do work, I get paid pretty well. I also believe that the only reason I am working is because my boss wants me to pay for my dogs' vet bills. I am being serious here!
In the last 12 months:
3 vet visits to dx lymphoma (including biopsy)
6 months of chemo (2-4x month)
2 emergancy vet visits
3 vet visits (including 2 to specialists) to dx lung infection.
3 additional visits to specialist vet for treatment of lung infection
2 follow visits from regular vet for lung infection
The above is just what I remember for two dogs.
physicals for 3 dogs including blood work
Plus x-rays for OFA (hips and elbows), OFA Thyriod, CERF, Echocardiogram for OFA heart clearence.
I paid out over $12,000 in vet bills in the last 12 months. The year before it was about $6,000 (TPLO surgery was a hunk of it).
I got three dogs and the majority of the out flow is for two of them. The specialist vet and e-clinic folks keep on asking me when they are going to see my 3rd dog. I tell them NEVER!!!!!
Rottweilers are not cheap to keep.
