If they are able to play without anyone getting hurt then I would think that playing without you is ok. Akasha and Keil play tug with EVERYTHING! If you are worried about the older dog getting hurt than I would be sure and monitor their tug games. Akasha plays tug with both our 14 yo Poodle (10 pounds) and our 3 yo Brussels/Poodle X (6 pounds). Akasha is very good about laying down and letting either of the small dogs take the other end of the tug. She is very gentle when she plays with them, although she does play to win and the poor small dogs rarely win against her. Maybe that is why she likes playing with them;) They won't play with Keil. The poor guy tries sooooo hard to get the small dogs to play with him. I think that because Akasha was smaller than Brylee when we got her at 8 weeks and Keil whom we got at four months was already ALOT bigger than them.
Since they are only allowed to play with the tug when I give it to them it is a game that is always monitored.
