Very true, the
United Kennel Club registers purebreds (many of which are not AKC recognized breeds, like mine) and offers a a Limited Privilege registration for altered purebred and mixed breed dogs - they're also fairly stringent in the way they register unaltered purebreds (unlike that other kennel club mentioned here a few days ago, which seemed to be designed for puppy mills). UKC doesn't allow professional handlers at their shows (which by no means makes the shows less competitive, just a bit less daunting for people new to the sport). I've been to a few (and will hopefully be showing in an unlicensed class (classes with no points, meant to provide an opportunity for experience) at a show later this month).
