I'm also from Australia and mum of two rotties. I agree with Samanthac - the only difference is their birth country. Read the history of the rottie and you will find out where the rottie originated from (Germany). It is a common misconception that the German rottie is more stocky with a large "boofy" head - I once believed it before I did some serious reading prior to being a rottie mum!

There is Australian standards for conformation/showing - check your local Rottie club/association or the Aust National Kennel Council for standards.

Rottie clubs/Canine Assocations also ensure that the puppy you purchase from breeders registered with the club are best of breed. Information such as elbow/hip scores, bite, temperament etc is made available to you.

If you see a mixture of so called "pure bred" rotties, it is likely you have seen results from accidents or backyard breeders making a quick dollar.... and I have seen a rottie or two around my area that are unfortunately, a result of uneducated backyard breeding.
