| You can supplement with some people food cooked rather than raw. But you have to be careful to avoid certain things that are dangerous for dogs, like onions, chocolate etc. My dog prefers cooked food and will eat lots of things like carrots cooked that he will not touch when raw.
I live in a rainforest area and can keep current 20 pound bag and a couple spare 20 pound bags without trouble. I do think that when I use a 40 pound bag it may start to go stale before I reach the end, but the new still sealed smaller bags seem to do well. I keep the bags (sealed until in use) in a galvanized garbage can with a lid. Canidae has a plasticized liner or some such thing that seems to protect the food pretty well. My guess is it would be even better in in something like a closed old refrigerator with some baking soda to absorb odors and moisture, rather than the can which is good against racoons etc. but not airtight. If transporting from Pheonix you might wrap in plastic garbage bags before leaving so that they are in an extra protective layer put on while still in a dry environment. |
