| I neverr take my puppies out of their crates while they are whining. I make sure and wait until they stop first. I don't want them to think that their whining is the reason they are getting out.
When we first got Akasha at 8 weeks old she cried alot while in her crate. I made sure that she had gone to the bathroom before I put her away so I knew that was not the problem and she just wanted out. By ignoring her crying she learned that it wasn't going to get her anywhere and quickly stopped. Now at 6 months old she never cries in her crate. Her brother Keil is another matter all together. He had never been in a crate until he was 4 months old and he still tends to whine. We ignore his whining and only take him out when he stops and he has gotten much better although it hasn't totally stopped yet;)
If you are worried about your puppy needing to go outside then I would make sure that she has already done her business before you crate her and if she starts whining just let her cry. She will stop eventually and then that is when I would take her out. By taking her out while she is whining you are teaching her that whining is her way out.
I know that it can be really hard to just let them whine. I had a difficult time and had to go outside on occassion so I couldn't hear her. I wanted to "rescue" her sooo bad. They eventually learn to like the crate and it gives them a feeling of security. Often our puppies are loose in my daughters room and can sleep where ever they want but we always seem to find them in their crates:D :)
