barks at dogs

oops, maybe this should have been posted under training.

OK, Viva (17 months) has officially become a teenager... she barks at dogs, not people, when they walk by the house (and she is inside). It's not a vicious snarly bark, more like a shout, and sometimes mixed in with a funny grumble and sometimes a playful whine though it's mostly the shouting bark. She also does this sometimes in the car when she sees other dogs on the sidewalk. It seems territorial. What's the best way to deal? I usually tell her "NO" and call her to me and have her stay, and reward her when she is calm. We do a lot of the pack leader exercises but do I need to step it up a bit? She also shows leash aggression sometimes, if she and the other dog are straining to greet.

In general her temperament is lovely. She is completely fine when we are in off-leash areas with any dog she meets. And she is fine with strangers walking by and coming up to the house. Just not strange dogs!

Any ideas to get us in the right direction? We are going to do more formal classes this summer.

Thanks,
Sarah
