Thank you Damp! Here's another translation provided by Ursula Schmidt-Jordan, who wrote the letter originally:

Please keep in mind that this is only a translation for you and should not be send in
this version.

"Dear Sir/Madam:

It is impossible for a problem as big as this to remain hidden within the borders of
Germany. With this, my letter I am indicating to you that the Breed Specific
Legislation/Dog Ordinance problem has reached international dimensions and that the
world beyond the German boarders is very much concerned as to what is going on in
Germany. In short, one is outraged and concerned! Not yet country wide - but in
several local regions of Germany already enacted this dog ordinance cannot be allowed
and has to be vetoed. No one can make a dog responsible where only its owner can and
has to be made responsible! Any dog can only be as good as his owner! Even a
Dachshund or a Chihuahua can cause considerable wounds when trained to bite!

You will most likely agree with me that this law if not vetoed in time could also
cause considerable economic problems.

For this and other reasons as specified in this letter, may I ask you to undertake
all that is in your power and rather consider a dog handler license for the
responsible owner, and under no circumstances a breed banning (no matter what breed).
After all it is the German dog breeds such as the Rottweiler, the German Shepherd,
the Giant Schnauzer, the Boxer, the Doberman and many other German dog breeds as well
as the Schutzhundesport, founded more than 100 years ago that makes even us
foreigners abroad proud of Germany, its dog breeds and its dog-sport.

What would be if these breeds and the German Schutzhundsport would no longer be!?!
Max von Stephanitz would turn in his grave - it's inconceivable, it's simply
inconceivable!!!

Respectfully, your international dog friend,"

Nancy
