Actually, we dock our lambs tails with special rubber bands, and yes the tail drops off, bone and all. I have docked puppies tails this way, too (newborns) and it worked just fine, but giving tetanus shots for them is a good idea, like we do the lambs. It is really about the only trouble that can come from doing it this way IF it is done when they are very young.
