A.M. whining

I've just adopted a(nother) akita -- a cute-as-a-button rescue girl that I was fostering & just can't let go to another home....

She has one annoying (!!) habit. In the morning, from about 5:30 on, she starts whining & yipping. The dogs get fed as soon as I go downstairs, so she's twigged on to the fact that when I get going, she gets FOOD!

I generally ignore her whining until I'm ready to get up, and make an effort to time my descent of the stairs during one of the brief times she is not whining; this has not helped. Now she whines when I go back up stairs to get ready for the day!

Suggestions on how to stop this? The floor plan of the house is pretty open, & I've thought about getting a water pistol to zap her with water when she's whining....

You can check Nikka out at my rescue group's website:
www.akitarescuewny.com. (If you sit thru the slide show at the beginning, you'll see me w/ my dal & my first beloved Akita Cagney). Go to the main page, click on 'ARWNY akitas available' and scroll down to the bottom. She's the black & white pinto -- charming, smart & endearing, except for the whining habit!
