| A 12 month old is still pretty much a puppy, he will test and try out his dominance but will usually back down if an older dog tells him so. 18 -19 months old they start to think that maybe they are 'the man' and will not be so quick to back down. Its a tricky age, especially if there are older males around. They are not quite adult, but they are thinking about taking on the world which doesn't usually work out to well for them if they pick the wrong adult male.
At 12 months they pretty much still respect their elders to some degree. You need to be careful that the older dog does not really put the puppy down without the puppy asking for it. The puppy will remember unfair treatment and get even when he's a little older.
