growling and lunging in crate

hi everyone, kai,s decided to trow us a new problem, kai has used a crate to sleep in and go to while unsupervised scince 8 weeks old, hes now 2 years old and has allways lovd and accepted his crate. 3 weks ago as i bent down to say hello to him he growelled at me i told him NO and he trid to lick me trough the bars, the next evening i went to give him a treat for bedtime and he growelled again, i told him NO and to lie flat which he did no problem. well scince then it has esculated to everyone in the family, if you walk past his crate while hes in it he growells, if you bend down to say hi or give a treat he growells but now if you say no he gets worse and lunges at you. he will lie flat immediatly on command but still growells and wont have any eye contact. he is completely opposite when out of his crate, happy and obiedient.

if this is territoriel and i remove the crate, will he not then take over the room he sleeps in (this being the kitchen, could be a big problem)

any advise greatly apprieciated
