We allow our 9 yo chocolate lab Sienna to sleep in our bed. However, we do not allow our 15 month old rottie Phoenix to sleep in our bed. He sleeps on the floor in our bedroom (on an oriental carpet.

It's been interesting to watch him learn the rules. Of course at daybreak, he wants to play and starts licking us and putting his front paws up on the bed. That starts my day, so he gets the result he desires. But he has only tried to get fully up on the bed 2 or 3 times in the 9 months he's lived with us- and been promptly sent off the bed. Perhaps if we had a king instead of a queen size bed, we would have let him join us.
